The Nigerian Dwarf Goat

The Nigerian Dwarf Goat is a miniature breed of dairy goat that originated from West Africa. They were imported to the United States between the 1930s and 1950s and were originally used as exhibition animals in zoos before becoming popular as companion animals.

Nigerian Dwarf Goats are known for their milk production. Does can produce one to two quarts of milk per day, which is high in butterfat and makes excellent cheese and butter. They generally breed year-round and produce twins. They can be milked for up to ten months but can also be allowed to dry up on their own if milking is no longer desired.

Nigerian Dwarf Goats are also known for their friendly and gentle temperament. They are easy to care for and make good pets for families with children. They are also relatively low-maintenance, requiring only a small amount of space and a simple diet.

Here are some additional facts about the Nigerian Dwarf Goat:
  • They are the smallest breed of dairy goat, with adults typically weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
  • They come in a variety of colors, including brown, black, white, and spotted.
  • They are relatively quiet goats, and they are not known for being aggressive.
